Robin van Persie Can go Where he Wants...

The current doom and gloom surrounding Arsenal is not quite at the astronomical level it was this time last year, when the Premier League odds had the Londoners pegged as something of an 'also-ran' to the two Manchester clubs and Chelsea.

However, there are still a fair few commentators (who will remain nameless) bidding to paint the Gunners as a club destined to lurch from crisis to crisis every summer, with an unsettling new high-profile transfer story inevitably dominating the back pages of the tabloids for weeks.

Star striker, and eternal fixture of the top scorer betting on Bet365, Robin van Persie, is looking more and more likely to leave the club, this summer, despite questionable Twitter rumours, in recent weeks, that he has agreed a deal in principle to stay.

Contrary to press and popular expectation, Arsenal fans are not actually crying into their Frosties over this. Rather, the Gooners are feeling content that they were able to enjoy a full season of top form from a man who has been plagued with injuries for so much of his career, preventing him from having the sort of impact he would have dreamt of as a young lad.

As such, the thought of RVP leaving the Emirates, this summer, has nowhere near as hard a hit as when Cesc Fabregas left the club. The chances are that Van Persie will not be lucky enough to enjoy another full season free of injuries, so any decision from Arsene Wenger to build the team around him would have been unwise.

If RVP departs, and Wenger can sign a few players with the money brought in, Arsenal could yet shock everyone by coming back into the title mix, next season, following a year in which they never truly looked in the same league as the likes of Manchester United and City.

Finally, one piece of good news for the Gunners that now seems inevitable is that Bendtner looks almost certain to leave the club; that is surely worth a celebration in itself.

Chairman adds to Arsenal fears

Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood admits star striker Robin van Persie could be forced to quit the club if he is seeking a big-money contract.

The Dutchman is at the centre of speculation over his future, with just one year left to run on his current deal, and a number of top European clubs chasing his signature.

Manchester City, Real Madrid and Juventus are just three of the teams keen to sign the 28-year-old following his best season in the Premier League.

Van Persie bagged 30 league goals last term, often dominating the live in-play betting on next goalscorer, and finished as the Premier League's top marksmen.

Arsenal fans have seen key players regularly leave over the past few seasons, including Cesc Fabregas, Thierry Henry and Samir Nasri, and will be concerned that the same might happen again.

Arsene Wenger has stated he hopes to do all he can to try and keep the striker but financial restrictions may prevent the manager from keeping a hold of his star man.

Hill-Wood concedes that if money is the main consideration for the Gunners captain, then van Persie is likely to leave the Emirates.

The Arsenal chairman told the Sunday Mirror: "With players, you never know what they are going to do. He is vital to us and has been an extremely good captain.

"But if somebody comes along and offers Robin £250,000 a week then I am afraid we cannot compete with that."

Arsenal have already moved to bring in a new frontman this summer, with Germany international Lukas Podolski agreeing a deal with the Gunners.

Hill-Wood has been keen to point out that is likely to be more incomings at the Emirates, adding "I believe we will bring in more. I am confident we will, in fact."

It will be interesting to see if online bets placed before the start of the next Premier League season back Arsenal for success in 2012/13.

Arsenal Calm over Van Persie

Arsenal chief executive, Ivan Gazidis, insists that the club will not be pressured into making a decision over Robin van Persie’s future. The Dutchman has become a firm favourite of fans who like to watch football live, this season, and the Gunners will be eager to keep 'RVP' on their books.

The Arsenal skipper is currently on Euro 2012 duty with the Netherlands, hoping to recapture the kind of form that saw him hit 37 goals for the Gunners, last term.

Van Persie’s future at the Emirates Stadium has been the subject of mounting speculation, as he enters the final year of his contract. If a new deal cannot be agreed this summer, Arsenal are likely to cash in on one of Europe’s hottest properties.

Despite the uncertainty over their key striker’s future, Gazidis says Arsenal will not be pressured into making a rushed decision.

"Robin sat down with us at the end of the season, and we had a good discussion", he told the club’s official website.

"What we agreed at that meeting was that we would keep all the discussions we had over the summer to ourselves and make announcements when it is the right time."

Arsenal lost Samir Nasri in similar circumstances, last year, and his decision to leave was vindicated by lifting the Premier League title with Manchester City. Gunners fans fear Van Persie will follow suit this summer.

A late-season charge saw Arsenal snatch a Champions League place from under the nose of rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, and Gazidis revealed that the club has big ambitions for the future, starting with retaining top players and adding to the quality of the squad this summer.

"We want to win the Premier League. We want to compete to win the Champions League. That is what we are planning for during the course of the summer, and everything we do is geared towards that”, Gazidis added.
