Arsenal's title ambitions are now over for this season after they lost the North London derby, Robin van Persie has admitted.
The Dutch forward made his return to the Arsenal squad for the first time in five months at White Hart Lane when he came off the bench in the second half. However, he could not prevent his side losing 2-1 to their arch rivals.
Van Persie was denied a goalscoring return by some wonderful saves from Spurs goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes and the defeat means Arsenal are now six points behind Chelsea at the top of the table, the Premier league odds now make the Gunners serious outsiders.
The striker told Arsenal's website the Gunners "deserved a draw" from the game and he was "happy to be back" after such a long time on the sidelines.
Speaking about Arsenal's title bid now, he stated: "I don't think Chelsea will drop more than six points now."
"When you are this close you really want to win it. When you don't do that it is frustrating."
His manager Arsene Wenger mirrored Van Persie's admission that Arsenal's title bid is over, saying his players "must forget" about winning the Premier League title as they have lost too many important games this season.
However Van Persie's return will be a boost for his national side. The Netherlands are currently 12/1 shots in the World Cup 2010 betting and should progress at least as far as the quarter finals.
