Theo Walcott has made it perfectly clear what he needs to do to get his career back on track – stay fit for an entire season.
As was highly publicised at the time, Walcott missed out on the England 2010 World Cup Finals quad and this was down in no small part to how much his form was affected by several injury lay-offs during the Premier League season.
After England’s disastourous tournament though, Walcott has another chance to really make his mark. During a season where young English players are going to be looked at closely, he has a chance to show why he is a major part of the national team’s future.
As mentioned though, a lot does depend on his fitness throughout the season. Speaking about his aims for the season he says that an ‘injury-free season’ is his first target.
He then said that he wants to ‘give more to the fans this year’ in terms of his own personal form and the team as a whole. As Walcott states, the players ‘want to win something now’ after a few years in the trophy wilderness.
Walcott is only 21-years-old and he is still expected to have a blossoming career with club and country. He just needs that one season where everything kicks into place. Hopefully, the 2010 / 2011 campaign can be just that.
Elsewhere, with the World Cup quarter-finals going on over the next couple of days, it is worth starting to think about World cup semi final betting with the tournament reaching the business end.
